FAIRPORT, NY, June 21, 2012 – Manning & Napier proudly announces the recipients of its 2012 Scholarship Program.
Each year, Manning & Napier awards one $8,000 scholarship and two $1,000 scholarships to three area high school students who have demonstrated hard work and academic excellence. Established in 2004, the Manning & Napier Scholarship Program was developed in an effort to promote academic excellence within the greater Rochester, New York community, and who plan to continue their education with a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university.
This year, Derek Spath of Spencerport High School, Evan Zheng of Fairport High School, and Tricia Phillips of Williamson Senior High School are among the scholars receiving awards totaling $10,000.
Spath, the recipient of the $8,000 award, plans to attend the University at Buffalo, as a double-major in Biochemistry and Spanish, with a concentration in Pre-Med. Zheng and Phillips will each receive awards of $1,000, respectively. Zheng intends to study Biology at Harvard University and Phillips plans to major in Mathematics at Hartwick College.
Awards are renewable for three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever comes first. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment to continue receiving their scholarship. In addition to the financial support, the winner of the $8,000 scholarship will also receive a paid internship with Manning & Napier during the summer between their sophomore and junior years of college, to help them with career readiness.
“Manning & Napier is pleased to recognize the achievements of these exceptional students, for their academic accomplishments and their willingness to give back to the community,” said President and Co-Director of Research, Jeff Coons. “These talented individuals signify the future of our community. It is our view that our support of this scholarship represents an important investment to our area. We wish the 2012 scholarship recipients continued success in all future endeavors.”
